Mt. Evans SCenic Byway

Get your head in the clouds just 60 miles from Denver. Traverse through five climate zones, including the alpine tundra, to the 14,264-foot summit of Mount Evans along the highest paved road in North America. Spectacular views of Mount Bierstadt, one of 58 peaks exceeding 14,000 feet (known as "14ers" locally) — the most of any state, abound that surely can't be missed. 

Recommended highlights: Chief Mountain, Guanella Pass, Mount Evans Summit, Historic Georgetown, Georgetown Loop Railroad, Herman Gulch, St. Mary's Glacier and Idaho Springs.

Mt. EvAns

Yes, you can hike it, but for the sake of time and sanity for most, visitors can ascend 14,000 feet into the sky, by drive up the summit! Because of snow, the Mount Evans Scenic Byway is generally open to vehicles from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Stops may include Echo Lake which is a splendid park with picnic benches and epic views of snowcapped peaks.


Guanella Pass/St. Mary's Glacier

Enjoy astounding mountain views along Guanella Pass! Hikes along this area include trails for those either seeking solitude or those who want the ultimate challenge to summit a 14er - Mt. Bierstadt. Another highly recommended hike is St. Mary's Glacier suitable for families or solo wanderers looking for beautiful scenary.
